Known as the Silver Bridge and the Walt Disney Bridge and the Castle Bridge, this fascinating structure sure caught my attention as I drove along Valley Drive.
It’s a popular stop in Mill Creek MetroParks in Youngstown. Although it was erected in 1885, major renovations were done in 2007. Repairs were necessary to get the bridge back in shape – visually and structurally.
Just like many other creative types, I was drawn to the way the arches flow and the spires rise all around the incredible suspension bridge.
It’s easy to park near the bridge and safely walk along the edges (it’s 32 feet wide). I had a great time going in and out of the arches and viewing it from both ends.
I’m sure the MetroPark is packed at times. The quiet summer morning I went meant there were few cars and often no vehicles at all for extended periods. I had plenty of time to capture all sorts of angles for these and other photos.
Charles Fowler of the Youngstown Bridge Company designed the structure.
